Nyandarua County denies Hannah Nyambura’s Ksh.78 million unpaid dues

Nyandarua County Government has dismissed claims by Hannah Nyambura Ndugire, a 60 year old woman who chained herself to the gate of the County Headquarters in Ol-Kalou, demanding payment for paving the town’s pavements totaling 78 million.

The County dismissed her claims through a pres release on Thursday.

“As an experienced contractor, it would also not have been possible for her to carry out works outside the contract without written and valid site instructions,” stated the County of Nyandarua.

It said the contactor signed a contract for Estate Roads Roads Improvement, Pathways, Parking Lots and Storm Water Drainage amounting to Ksh.64.86 million amidst a competitive open tender bidding in which she emerged the lowest with approximately 400,000 lower than the next bidder.

According to the County, the contractor commenced work in 2019, carried it to completion and payments were settled as per the contract, with every certificate of partial completion that was paid fully until April 24 when final certificate was paid alongside 50 percent of the retention amounts.

It further, says the only outstand payment is 5 percent of the contract value, which is withheld as a retention amount and will be settled at the lapse of six months from the date of works completion according to the agreement signed.

On August 24, while protesting the delayed payments, the lady claimed that auctioneers were baying for her property for defaulting on loans.

She cried foul over unpaid dues, much of the cash that shoot as a loan to complete the contracted work that included construction of storm water drainages in the town.

The County has directed the contractor to file a suit instead of eliciting emotions to citizens who may not be privy to terms of the contract.
