Govt gazettes Nasewa an EPZ for industrial park establishment in Busia
Busia County is set to have first of a kind Export Processing Zone (EPZ) on 3412 hectares of land.
This is in line with a gazette notice that was issued Monday, setting aside Nasewa in Matayos Constituency an EPZ to establish an industrial park.
The project is expected to be one of Africa’s tech and business hubs offering employment.
Busia County Governor Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma – the first-time chief in a county perceived as among the poorest in the country has spent the last six months earmarking key development projects.
With the help of the national government, the Nasewa EPZ would propel the economic growth and development of Busia.
It will be undertaken in three phases, a move that has been welcomed by Busia Governor Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma.
“The government has finally gazetted the Nasewa land as an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) setting the stage for its launch,” said the County chief.
The establishment of the Industrial Park at the Nasewa Nucleus Estate is in light of the Kenyan government’s manufacturing and food security agenda.
Upon completion, it will create employment in a populous county of more than 800,000 people.
Another region which has been earmarked as an EPZ through gazette notice is Eldoret municipality in Uasin Gishu country on a piece of land measuring 135 hectors.
