Kenya, UNDP partner to launch peace campaign ahead of general elections

Kenya and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have partnered to launch a peace campaign aimed at curbing electoral violence ahead of the upcoming general elections slated for August 9, 2022.

Mandisa Mashologu, the acting resident representative of the UNDP Kenya says the ‘Let Peace Win’ campaign seeks to foster greater commitment by all stakeholders to peaceful elections in order to safeguard the development gains Kenya has already achieved. She made the remarks in the capital Nairobi on Saturday.

Kenya’s current president, Uhuru Kenyatta, will not be seeking re-election due to constitutional term limits. Elections in the country have historically been fraught affairs, with cyclical bouts of ethnic and political violence tending to spike before and after the votes in recent decades.
