The number of Kenyans earning more than Ksh.100, 000 and above currently stands at 79,909, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).

The figure reduced by 4,861 in the year 2020 compared to the previous year when the numbers rose by 2,234.

The 2019 statistics reveal employees earning Ksh.100,000 monthly had increased by 2.71 percent thus adding up to 84,907 thus accounting to 2.9 percent of the year’s 2.92 formal workers  who were identified by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The lot receiving salary range of Ksh.50,000 to Ksh.20,000  stands at 2.7 percent of formal workers in the country.

Kenyans who earn Ksh.30,000  to 49,999 monthly stood at 781,964, forming the largest group of formal employees in the country, which has expanded by 113,615 earners over the past five years.

2019 statistics reveal that more men earned Ksh.100,000 and above more than women, with the number of men being rated at 50,749 compared to women at 21,516.

Three-quarters of Kenyans earn a  salary below Ksh.50,000.
