Why govt wants Jimmy Wanjigi, wife arrested
Jimmy Wanjigi has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
It has been established that businessman cum politician Wanjigi committed a conspiracy to commit a felony and to forge a title deed.
This has been revealed after police officers obtained a warrant of arrest against Wanjigi in a renewed battle between him and the state.
According to court documents, Wanjigi alongside nine others committed the offences on diverse dates between April 2010 and June 2018.
The arrest has also been extended to his wife Irene Nzisa Wanjigi, Himanshu Velji Dodhia, Kaneez Noorani and Mohamed Hussein Noorani.
Others include Mohamed Hussanali, Kairu Augustine Thuo and John Nyanjua Njenga.
Wanjigi was whisked into police cars and taken to Kamukunji Police Station.
This comes hardly a day after police officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stormed Wanjigi’s Kwacha residence on Monday night in his pursuit, without giving full details.
The incident, however, turned dramatic on Tuesday morning when his supporters stormed and camped outside the gates in Wanjigi’s solidarity as officers gazed.
According to Wanjigi, the raid was in connection with what he said over the weekend at a political rally.
“I tend to think it has to do with what I said in the weekend where I was very clear about some personalities and it seems I was making some of my friends uncomfortably because one will wonder why they would this sort of force when I have not committed any crime,” he said.
On January 15, the businessman attended Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s event at his Yatta farm, where he described ODM leader Raila Odinga as a dictator, and asked the Kamba region to support the former Vice President.
“The person who has united the Kamba community is Kalonzo and he hasn’t said that he is retiring from politics. Support him and get rid of those who want to divide you,” said Wanjigi.
