Three officers who allegedly aided Wanjala’s escape freed on bail

Three police officers who allegedly helped Masten Wanjala to escape from the dungeon have been released on a Ksh.100,000 cash bail each.
For the next one week, the three officers will report to the investigating officer without fail.
The officers identified as Police Inspector Philip Mbithi, Police Constables Boniface Mutuma and Precious Mwende all of Jogoo Police Station were arrested a day after Masten escaped under their watch.
They were charged with aiding escape from lawful custody and neglect of official duty contrary to section 124 and 128 of the Penal code respectively.
Their release comes hours after the 20-year-old self-proclaimed serial child killer, Wanjala, was killed.
He was beaten to death by an irate mob in Bungoma.
Wanjala was confirmed dead by Bungoma based-Assistant County Commissioner Cornelius Nyaribai.
The man confessed to having killed 10 children.
Wanjala escaped from Jogoo Road Police station when officers were processing him for arraignment in Court on Wednesday.
He is said to have escaped at an unknown time on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
Wanjala was yet to take a formal plea into his alleged murder probe.
