September inflation rate rises to 6.91% from 6.57% in August
Inflation rate in September went up 6.91 percent from 6.57 percent in August, according to Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS)
This was largely driven by rise in prices of commodities under food and non-alcoholic beverages at 10.63 percent and transport at 9.21 percent.
The housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ index increased by 0.91 percent between August 2021 and September 2021.
“This was mainly attributed to increase in prices of kerosene/paraffin, electricity and gas/LPG,” said KNBS.
According to KNBS, there was a slight decrease in house rent during the same period.
This even as transport Index increased by 1.17 percent mainly due to increases in prices of petrol and diesel that went up by 5.91 percent and 7.30 percent, respectively.
Bus fares of city public service vehicles also recorded an increase of 0.64 percent.
