President Kenyatta orders transfer of Kenya Meat Commission to Defense Ministry
The Kenya Meat Commission will now be run by the military upon completion of transfer procedures from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
Cabinet Secretary for Livestock Peter Munya has already ordered his Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai to initiate the transfer which was ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Following the transfer of Ministerial responsibility of Kenya Meat Commission to the Ministry of Defense by H.E the president, you are directed to facilitate a seamless transfer of Kenya Meat Commission to the Ministry of Defence.” Said CS Munya in a memo.
In a memo dated September 7, 2020, CS Munya directed the KMC Managing Director to give an update on the process within the next two weeks.
“Ensure that you coordinate the entire exercise with the National Treasury and transfer the associated budgets at the next scheduled Supplementary Budget. You are required to submit a fortnight report to my office on the progress made.”
In 2013, the Commission was thrown into financial reds for debts amounting to Ksh330 million.
The debts included statutory deductions and suppliers’ payments which had not been paid for years.
