IG Police Mutyambai ordered to reinstate MP Wahome’s security detail

Inspector General of the Police Hilary Mutyambai has been ordered to reinstate the security detail of Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome.

MP Wahome had petitioned Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matyangi and Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho for withdrawing her bodyguard in February.

She also told the court that the two had ordered the withdrawal of police manning her home in September last year in unclear circumstances.

In February, MP Wahome claimed the IG withdrew her security following a statement on January 20, through Director of Corporate Communications that National Police Service (NPS) shall not provide security to Vips who are involved or suspected to be involved in crime until they are cleared by the courts.

“Subsequently in accordance with the said statement my security was withdrawn as police bodyguards attached to me were all recalled.  I have never been informed of any reasons that led to the said action to date,” she said in court documents

She told the court that she could not discharge her functions effectively to the people of Kandara and the country as a result of the withdrawal of her security.
