By Daisy Okanga | The youngest daughter of former South African leader Nelson Mandela is dead.
She died aged 59 in a Hospital in South Africa. Zindzi was serving as the Ambassador to Denmark at the time of her death,
Zindzi is survived by her four children and husband Molapo Motlhajwa.
South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABS), indicate she passed away on Sunday night at a hospital in Johannesburg, although the cause of death remains unknown.
Nelson Mandela’s daughter came to international prominence in 1985, when the white minority government offered to release Nelson Mandela from prison if he denounced violence perpetrated by his movement, the Africa National Congress, against apartheid.
She leaves behind four children, Zoleka Mandela, Zondwa Mandela, Bambatha Mandela and Zwelabo Mandela.
Ms Mandela’s father died in December 2013, followed by her mother Winnie Madikizela-Mandela who passed away in April 2018.
The late Nelson Mandela was the first President of South Africa to be elected in a fully representative democratic election, as well as the country’s first black head of state. He died at the age of 95 after suffering from a prolonged respiratory infection.
