Senator Sam Ongeri replaces Ole Kina as PAIC chair
Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri has been elected as the Chairman of the Public Accounts and Investment Committee and will be Deputised by Hargura Godana.
The election of Senator Ongeri comes on the back of a standoff over control of the committee chair position following the election of Narok Senator ole Kina as PAIC Chairman.
Ole kina had been elected as the Chair of the PAIC, however, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the elections.
With his election, Senator Ongeri now takes the chair position away from Ole Kina who defiantly carried out the role amidst objection from a cross-section of committee members.
The position is tasked with oversight of the expenditure of billions of shillings given to all 47 counties in the country under the division of revenue and other conditional grants.
