Kenya Redcross, Nakuru County receive bar soaps from Menengai Oil refinery to help fight against COVID-19

Insurance companies to cover policy holders affected by COVID-19

Menengai Oil Refineries Limited (MORL) donated a total of one thousand four hundred (1,400) cartons of Menengai Cream soap and Kibuyu Bar Soap to the Kenya Red Cross and Nakuru County government.

The initiative was spearheaded by MORI Head of Marketing, Simpson Osiemo, Kenya Red Cross Deputy Secretary General, Annette Msabeni and Nakuru County Government’s Health County Officer Samuel Kingóri.

According to MORI, the initiative was to help complement the efforts by Kenya Red Cross to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in low income areas as well as the vulnerable people across the country.

“COVID-19 is a global threat and should not be left to the national and county governments to handle it alone. We as MORL shall endeavour to engage in partnerships that make an impact in the lives of ordinary people in the society.” Reads the statement in part.

According to the World Health Organisation, thorough hand wash using soap or sanitizer proved the best way of preventing people from contracting the COVID-19.

The move by MORL, however, came after the government pleaded with Kenyans to have soaps and sanitisers at their disposal and exercise regular hygiene.

“It has been medically proven that one of the ways to prevent oneself from getting the coronavirus is by thoroughly washing hands with soap and water. With this in mind, we at Menengai Oil Refineries Limited have seen fit to donate our soap to Red Cross for distribution to our fellow Kenyans.”

The company dominated in total 76,800 bars of soaps where out of the total number, 48,000 bar soaps and 19,200 bars of Kibuyu bar soaps were directed to Kenya Red Cross. Nakuru County received 9,600 bar of Menengai Cream soap.

“In total Menengai Oil Refinery Limited is donating 76,800 bars of soap to both Kenya Redcross and Nakuru County government to curb further spread of the Covid-19.”
