President Uhuru Kenyatta held discussions with governors drawn from the Rift Valley region on Monday evening.
He was briefed by the Governors from the region on the progress of the planning ahead of the Building Bridges Initiative which is slated to be held in Nakuru County on March 21.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta held a consultative meeting with Governors from Rift Valley Region who briefed him on the planning for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rally.”
“The Governors assured the President of their full backing of the BBI process and undertook to ensure unity and inclusion of all stakeholders in the run-up to the Nakuru rally.”
There appears to be a simmering tension in politically restive Nakuru ahead of a rally to whip up the public behind a unity document fronted by the President and the ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Divisions exhibited on Thursday last week as a forum convened by Governor Lee Kinyanjui at the ASK Showground was boycotted by several leaders from the county.
Ten MPs from the region, alongside Senator Susan Kihika, all allied to Deputy President William Ruto, avoided the forum, signifying serious divisions ahead of the rally.
Governor Kinyanjui, who is the South Rift region BBI coordinator, had called for the meeting in a bid to unite the region.
